They Make Their Momma Proud!

Ok, brag time for me!

The other day I had a conference at school for Mark and one of his teachers told me- "He is just such a great all around kid. He has the best spirit, the best soul, the best attitude. When I look at him I see what I want my boys to grow up to be!"

Then Tuesday afternoon he came home from school not feeling well. Little Younger brother Luke volunteered to get a cool wash cloth for his head and then at night he was standing by the bed rubbing his big brothers head and telling him he loved him and hoped he felt better!

Just warms the soul!!!

We interrupt this program-Be Oyster Aware

I am not a good joke teller-just ask my family. But I do sometimes crack myself up- so if I’m the only one that thinks this silly little joke is funny- that’s ok- I’m used to it.

What did the Momma oyster say to her baseball playing son oyster? “Are you
kidding me, don’t you know you never slide in head first!”

See, I told you- not so funny! Here’s something that isn’t funny at all-while oysters can be a very healthy food to eat - people with certain health risks can get really sick from eating Gulf oysters. It’s important to know the facts- so check those facts, and much more info- out at Be Aware Oyster!

Are you ready to run the race?

Hebrews 12:1-13
Discipline in a Long-Distance Race
1-3 Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!
4-11 In this all-out match against sin, others have suffered far worse than you, to say nothing of what Jesus went through—all that bloodshed! So don't feel sorry for yourselves. Or have you forgotten how good parents treat children, and that God regards you as his children?
My dear child, don't shrug off God's discipline, but don't be crushed by it either. It's the child he loves that he disciplines; the child he embraces, he also corrects.
God is educating you; that's why you must never drop out. He's treating you as dear children. This trouble you're in isn't punishment; it's training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God's training so we can truly live? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God's holy best. At the time, discipline isn't much fun. It always feels like it's going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it's the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.
12-13 So don't sit around on your hands! No more dragging your feet! Clear the path for long-distance runners so no one will trip and fall, so no one will step in a hole and sprain an ankle. Help each other out. And run for it!
*********************************************************************
Are you ready to run the race? Do you have on the right “attire” to run the race for God? What do you need to do get ready?

A few weeks ago one of our Pastors shared a sermon on Running without Fainting. Here are the steps that we need to do to prepare ourselves for the race.

YOU must fill in the blanks- what is it that you need to do to prepare?

1. Remove __________- What is it that distracts you from God? What gets in your way of worshipping and serving Him?
What are your priorities?
Does it make you miss what God has for you?
Wait on the Lord- stop long enough to focus on God

Philippians 3: 12-14
Focused on the Goal

12-14 I'm not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back

When we fix our eyes on God He gives us the power to turn away from those things that we don’t have the power to turn away from on our own.

2. Remember ___________- think about the reward at the end of the race.
There are 7,000 promises in the New Testament
If you’re starving spiritually- then feed yourself!!

YOU have to do it- You do need training but you still have to do it on your own to get it all!

YOU have to want it! Think about this- a deposit isn’t enough- you’ve got to be in it for the full commitment! Personal Commitment is what it takes to run this race.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24-25 You've all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally.
26-27 I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me! I'm staying alert and in top condition. I'm not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself

3. Resist __________- what discourages you or distracts you

~~~Satan’s greatest tool is causing discouragement in you, his second is causing procrastination!
God wants us to keep working! Keep running until we reach the finish line! He doesn’t want us to give up!
Galatians 6:9
9 So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don't give up, or quit.
Psalm 94:19
The minute I said, "I'm slipping, I'm falling,"your love, God, took hold and held me fast. When I was upset and beside myself, you calmed me down and cheered me up.
Philippians 1:6
6 There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears.
4. Renew _________ - need to renew ourselves daily!
Do you ever feel so tired that you just don’t think you can go on?
We need to MAKE time in our life to get renewed is God’s spirit! Renew yourself through His word! Through spending time with Him!
2 Corinthians 4:16
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
2 Timothy 4:7
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith
Are you prepared for the Race? Are you training daily?
Are you being renewed DAILY! Do you make time for renewal? Next time I plan to write about what I’ve learned from listening to Joyce Meyer’s lessons on Spending Time with God!
God sure knows how to tie things in together! It continues to amaze me how faithful He is in providing the lessons that I need to learn.
It is truly A GOD THING!!
Tackle it Tuesday- Reading my Bible
My tackle for today is actually an ongoing tackle. On January 2nd I began a new Bible Study where you read your Bible completely- from beginning to end- in 90 days. At first I thought there is no way I’d ever be able to accomplish this task but here it is Feb. 24th and I am more than half way through.
I have been a Christian for almost all of my life. I grew up in the church and read my Bible. I didn’t study the Bible really, I just read it. And I won’t say that right now I’m really “studying” the Bible because I’m reading A LOT everyday. But boy let me tell you I’m getting a lot out of it. I’m discovering things that I hadn’t grasped before. Things I hadn’t realized before. It’s been exciting.
I’m jumping around from one translation to another. Sometimes I read out of The Message, other times I’m using my NIV Women’s Devotional Bible, and I’ve even been reading from the NIV Kids’ Study Bible and The NIV Adventure Bible. But one thing I’m not doing is jumping around in my reading. So far I’ve done really well with keeping right on schedule with the reading. I did get a bit bogged down when reading Job and I had to just leave it for a while and go on to Psalms, but I came back and read it all.
I’m looking forward to continue this “tackle” and continuing to learn and glean new insights from this wonderful Book.
In the mean time I’ll leave you with a few things that have really meant a lot to me in my readings so far:
Moses was an extremely strong man and felt strongly about taking care of the Israelites. He continually interceded for the people, asking God to forgive them, to not punish them. When God told Moses in Numbers 27: 15-17 that he would die and would not see the Promised Land what did Moses do? Did he beg for his life? Did he plead his case before God reminding him of all that he had done? No, he asked God to place someone over the community that would lead them- someone that was a Godly man.
In 1 Kings 3:9 the Lord told Solomon that because he had been a faithful servant Solomon could for anything- what did he ask for? “Give me a God listening heart”- WOW- what a wonderful thing to desire!!! God, please give ME a God listening heart!!
In Isaiah 26:9 I learned of a strong desire for God- a desire I long to have:
9My soul yearns for you in the night;in the morning my spirit longs for you.
And in many places in Isaiah –chapter 9, chapter 11, chapter 53, chapter 63 we read about the coming of Christ! Both in His birth and His return! Oh, to read those words of prophesy and to see them come to light later in His word! What a blessing!!
And a verse that can break the heart of a Christian and hopefully stir a desire to dig deeper into the Word and into prayer: Jer. 2:32-
You women don’t forget their jewelry, do they? Brides don’t show up without their veils, do they? But my people forget me. Day after day after day they never give me a thought!!
Please come back to read more about my new found desire to spend time with God and the things I’m learning!!
Prayers Please
in gods hands
Please take a moment to pray for a bloggy friend- Beth over at I Should Be Folding Laundry. She found out the other day that she has lost both twins that she was carrying. She was 19 weeks into the pregnancy. Please pray for Beth and her family during this time of tragic loss!!
Thank you!!
Stop Breast Cancer for Life: Be My Support, Be My Strength, Be My Bra
Photobucket
Do you have about 15 extra seconds to spare today? I'm sure you do! If so, click here and scroll down to "Sign the Petition" or here to go directly to the Sign the Petition page to end "drive thru" masectomies.
"Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross joined Lifetime, Senator Landrieu(D-LA) and Representatives DeLauro (D-CT) and Moran (R-KS), at a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday, January 23, to give voice to the 20 million signatures collected on myLifetime.com urging Congress to end the practice of “drive-through” mastectomies, when women are forced to leave the hospital following their physically and emotionally difficult breast cancer surgeries before they and their doctors may feel they are ready to go home. Senator Landrieu and Representatives DeLauro and Moran are championing the bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2007 (S.459/H.R 758), which includes no mandates but allows a woman and her doctor to decide if she is best off going home or staying in the hospital for at least 48 hours after having a mastectomy.
It will only take a few seconds of your time and you may save thousands of lives!!
Please take a moment and support those with breast cancer!
If I'd Only Known-Robert "Radio" Kennedy and Coach Jones
This morning I opened our small weekly newspaper to read that Robert "Radio" Kennedy and Coach Harold Jones had visited our local high school last week. Oh if' I'd only known. I would have loved to have been able to attend that assembly turned pep rally. I would have even taken my own kids out of their elementary school early to attend.
The story of Radio and Coach Jones is such a touching one. If you don't know the story you can read about it here, or watch this movie.
Just last week my children watched part of the movie and were mesmorized by it. They loved watching Radio as he "worked" with the athletes at T.L. Hanna High School. They loved watching him as he entered school each day with such enthusiasm. And I saw their hearts break as they watched how some of the students mistreated Radio. It's a great life lesson!
Oh, if I had only known- I would have loved to have been present to watch this wonderful man share his love and passion for people through smiles and cheers -and watch as he spoke personally to each coach at the school- asking the most important question - "Do you stop to eat after games/matches/meets".
But it's also Coach Jones' words that show the true depth of this special relationship that Radio has not only with the coach but with 1000's of students who have walked the halls of T.L. Hanna High School (and any other school he has visited):
"Radio's presence at T.L. Hanna has been educational for the students and the staff. While we were trying to teach Radio to read and write, Radio was an inspiration to us. We thought we were teaching Radio, but Radio was teaching us"
And what were Radio's parting words to the students at our high school:
"Stay in school, do your homework. Teachers tell you to do it, DO
IT. Do your work. Do what your teacher tells you to. That's all."
I think that about says it all!
SkinnySongs CD
Photobucket
A couple of weeks ago I received an e-mail from a marketing company asking me if I would review a new music CD- Skinny Songs. The title had me intrigued so I kept reading. Here is how the e-mail described the CD:
"SkinnySongs is not about dieting, and is not "workout music." Instead, SkinnySongs is the first radio-hit-quality music specifically written to empower and inspire people to reach their weight and fitness goals. While some people listen to it while exercising or walking, others find it helps to listen to SkinnySongs even when driving or cooking — to get through rough days and strengthen their resolve to reach their goals."
I liked the sound of that. I love listening to great music while I workout or while I’m doing housework, or whatever. I kept reading and found out more about the woman that came up with this idea.
Penned by Roizen herself, the songs reflect her personal journey. Roizen writes:"About seven months ago I hit an all time high, I had gone from a size 8 to a size 14. Facing my 50th birthday, I did not want to enter the 'back half' not feeling good about myself, and at an unhealthy weight. Since music has always been a motivator to me, it occurred to me that maybe there would be great songs I could listen to while walking, or even in my car, that wouldmotivate me to succeed,
much in the way 'I will survive' by Gloria Gaynor got many of us through a breakup. I couldn't find any, so I wrote SkinnySongs."
I liked the sound of that even more. Here was someone that had “been there and done that” not someone that was just writing music about it. This was written by someone that had lived through it-she’d been in the trenches.
I received the CD the other day and immediately downloaded it to my iPod. I'll admit, at first I wasn't so sure about the CD as a whole. But the more I listen to it, the more it's growing on me. What a pleasant surprise. This is a great CD. Now the lyrics may not be completely “politically correct” but they are fun and somewhat truthful. Many people that are trying to lose weight or have lost weight have probably thought many of these same thoughts.
Here’s an example of some of the lyrics:
Use It To Lose It
That’s it now, get off your duff
No more fat, we have had enough
Gotta do a little huff and puffs
o that you can strutt your stuff
We’re in a feel good revolution
You just need some evolution
To improve your constitution
Get a move on! That’s the solution!
You got to use it, to lose it.
You got to use it, to lose it
You got to use it, to lose it.
You got to use it, to lose it
You Da Boss
Yo, I need to talk to you
Before you go and mess it up
I gotta call it like I see it
So y’all now listen up
This is your conscience talking
This is your conscience talking
And I know just whatcha feelin’
I know with whatcha dealin’
But you don’t need that piece of pie
Gotta let it go and pass you by
and I’m here to remind you why
‘cause you want to be lookin’ and feelin’ fly
You Da Boss, You Da Boss, yeah
You rate, hey hey, you rate hey hey
You Da Boss, You Da Boss, yeah
You rate, hey hey, you rate hey hey
Say You Da Boss!
Well, they’ll certainly make you think! You can read the story behind the lyrics here.
You can listen to samples here:
Song titles include:
The song list is as follows:
1. Skinny Jeans
2. Thin!
3. I'm a Hottie Now
4. Use It To Lose It
5. Incredible Shrinking Woman
6. Think I'll Go To Saks
7. You Da Boss
8. Objects In The Mirror
9. Who The H*** Is That?
10. Blowin' You Off at 8
It’s a well produced CD. The music quality is great, the vocals are awesome and it definitely is something to get you moving.
Paintball- Safe Mom!!
I don’t know about your boys kids but mine are dying to try playing paintball. They’ve never participated in it before but they've started talking about getting a group of boys together for their next combined birthday party and going to play paintball.
Now I don’t know much about paintball but I do know that you need to be well equipped in order to play well. And I also know that just any old paintball equipment won’t do. I’m sure they are going to want the best and they are going to want EVERYTHING! So going with tippmann a-5 or maybe Ion, Spyder or Proto Rail will be the direction we head in I'm sure!
I can just see them now, maneuvering around the field of play, probably playing Woodsball aiming for each other first- my boys are competitive that way. Of course being the good Mom that I am, they’ll be decked out in their protective gear- gloves, chest protectors, pads, pants, etc. Should I be saying "You'll put your eye out"? Nope, cause they'll be wearing their goggles too!
When I'm ready to make the dive into purchasing all of this equipment for them I know I can head over to Ultimate Paintball and get everything I need- including FREE SHIPPING! Do I hear Christmas bells ringing?
The Love Passage- for Kids
As we were doing our Family Devotion last night my youngest found this in his Bible. I love when I can find passages in translations that make it easy for even us older more mature folks to understand.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If I can speak beautifully and can sing like an angel, but don't love others, I sound like a child banging on a piano or a screeching radio.
If I'm very smart, almost a genius, if I can figure out the hardest math problems and understand sentence diagrams, but don’t love others, I am nothing.
Love will stand in line and wait its turn.
Love looks for the good in others.
Love doesn’t always want what others have, and it doesn’t brag about what it does have.
Love is polite, even when the other person is rude.
Love doesn’t always have to be first.
Love doesn’t get angry over the small things, and it doesn’t remember one reason after another to be hurt.
Love isn’t happy when someone else fails but is happy with the truth.
Love will always protect others, especially those who
are often picked on or teased.
Love always believes the best about others and is steady and true.
Love never gives up. Preaching will stop someday. So will speeches. Knowledge will come to an end. Today we only know part of what there is to know. We can preach and speak only with a small part of understanding, but when perfection comes then what is imperfect will go away.
I am now young, and so I talk and think and speak like a child. When I become an adult I will put childish ways behind me. Now we see only a poor reflection, like in a mirror; then we will see face-to-face. Now I only know part of what there is to know; then I will know fully and will be fully known.
AND NOW THESE THREE REMAIN:
FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE
BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE.
I Corinthians 13
Happy Valentine's Day!
Pay Your Mortgage Off Earlier
Lately there has been a lot in the news about mortgages and how the rates are dropping. Many people are rushing out to their local banks or contacting their mortgage companies to take advantage of the decreased rates. Why? They want to lower their rate and lower their payments at the same time.
But how about this- how about if you lower your rate but still pay the same amount? Why in the world would you want to do that? Well, according to this article at Money Magic -Borrowers can pay off their mortgage early by keeping their payment up! It’s a great idea. You are already paying this certain amount- why not keep paying it and pay off your mortgage in a more timely fashion.
To be honest, we already do this- well sort of. We pay extra on our mortgage each month and apply the extra money towards the principal on the house. We’ll be able to pay our off mortgage quiet a few years early by doing this. Looks like we weren’t so crazy after all!
If you live in the UK and are interested in a Commercial Mortgage you might want to check this out!
WFMW- Emotional Well Being Supplements
I have emotional issues. I am not going to lie. I tend to get rather snippy and if you’re around me and you have a head, you better watch out because I might just BITE IT OFF!
Now that being said, I am not like this all the time, but I do tend to get this way a lot.
DH first suggested I see the doctor about getting something to take to help take the edge off after my FIL died and we knew we’d be spending a lot more time with my MIL (but that is a WHOLE different post- or series of posts LOL). I tried about 5 different prescriptions before I found something that seemed to work. It did help tremendously with the moods and all but it made me so sleepy I could hardly function. I was literally struggling to stay awake, even when I took it at night.
After this my doc (bless her heart she was so patient with me) switched me to Wellbutrin. I was no longer tired- in fact I was wired. It worked pretty well but we decided to try taking both- at lower dosages. This worked really well- but after about 4 weeks I noticed that I had the jitters all the time. My hands were literally shaking constantly. And I while I felt better emotionally, I was a wreck physically.
Enter the blessing of herb vitamins. I did some reading and weaned myself off of the prescriptions and started taking the vitamins. Man, what a difference. I am now taking the following:
St. John’s Wort- I take 300 mgs twice a day
Korean Ginseng- 100 mg twice a day
Evening Primrose Oil- 1000 mg twice a day
5 HTP –100 mg at night before bed
Vitamin B6 – 100 mg once a day (helps the 5 HTP to work better)
I can tell you that taking these has saved my sanity and my families lives! LOL
All kidding aside- they’ve really done wonders for my overall well being and I plan to continue taking them.
Check out more Works for Me Wednesday at Don't Try This at Home, our substitute host (thanks chilihead)!!!
Tackle it Tuesday- Home Management Binder
I have been working on this for a while so it really is a TACKLE!
This is my Home Management Binder. Very similar to FlyLady’s Control Journal but I wanted a more positive sounding name. I’ve just started really using the binder but I’m hoping that it will really help me to become more organized and make better use of my time. I’m doing three Bible Studies right now and trying to find some type of work to do from home so becoming organized is a BIG priority right now.
Here are some pictures (sorry they aren’t the best quality) and a description:
That’s pretty much it. But boy I can already tell that it’s going to be a life saver!
