What's on Your Nightstand?

Jennifer over at 5 Minutes for books has started hosting a monthly carnival-What's on Your Nightstand. I missed it last month but wanted to jump in this month. Basically it's a chance for everyone to see what others are reading and maybe even find out why.

I have a pretty steep stack of books but a couple are books with study guides so it really isn't nearly as daunting as it appears.

Adam by Ted Dekker- this is my first Dekker book and I love it. I'm really into the "mystery-murder-mayhem" stuff. I've had a hard time putting this book down. The first afternoon I think I read 160 pages! A friend at church recommended Dekker and I'm glad he did.

Skin by Ted Dekker- gonna start this one as soon as I finish Adam.

The Extraordinary Mrs. R: A Friend Remembers Eleanor Roosevelt by William Turner Levy and Cynthia Eagle Russett- a biography of Eleanor Roosevelt. Not really sure why I picked this up at the library the other day but I'm looking forward to reading it.

Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper: Our church is doing this Bible Study. We're using it in Sunday School classes, Life Groups, Small Group studies and as a sermon series. I think it will be really interesting.
The Remarkable Women of the Bible: and Their Message for your Life Today by Elizabeth George: I'm using this in my daily devotional time each morning. Lately, I've just really had a desire to dig deeper into the stories of different Women of the Bible and this was one of the resources that I discovered.

When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin- our reading group is reading this book for September. I've already read it twice but will read it again. I've loved all of his books so far!

The Kite Runner- by Khaled Hosseini: yes, it's been around for a while and I'm probably one of the few that hasn't read it yet. Well, I'm not really "reading" it now anyway, I'm going to listen to it on my iPhone. I'm thinking we may try it out for our reading group at church.

So that's it- want to see what others are reading? Check it out over at 5 minutes for Books!

I've been thinking about reading "When Crickets Cry" and if you're going on your 3rd round of it maybe I should pick it up!
I did enjoy "The Kite Runner."

Oh I would love to hear your thoughts on that Elizabeth George book! I've wanted to read that one for years and just haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks for sharing your list!

I have had Don't Waste Your Life on my bookshelf for years and I have yet to finish it. But John Piper is brilliant, and I wish finish it one day. The Elizabeth George book sounds interesting, and I love the idea of using it for your devotion time. We have so much to learn from women of the Bible.

Nope, I haven't read Kite Runner either! Nor anything by Dekker. Maybe I'll get around to it one day. My hubby went to hear Piper at a conference a year or so ago and I think he was excellent!

Oh, wow, you have some great reads there! Charles Martin--love every one of his novels! Don't Waste Your Life--will totally get in your business!

I'm interested to know what you think of Adam...I picked it up recently but haven't started it. My last Dekker book was weird to say the least (Showdown, I think).

Glad to hear you like Adam. I'm a Dekker fan, but haven't read that one yet. Also, I really liked The Kite Runner. And anything John Piper is good in my book!

I haven't read Kite Runner yet either. I recently read Ted Dekker and Frank Pererti's House. It was really good.

I've heard that Piper book is great.

I delayed on reading Kite Runner and finally did last summer and loved it, in spite of its heavy tone.

Looks like you have pretty similar taste to me! I also enjoy Ted Dekker. I looooovvvvvveeeeed "When Crickets Cry," and I'm also trying to make room in my reading list for "The Kite Runner." Oh, and I'm working on "Don't Waste Your Life," too. :) Happy Reading!
