Works for me Wednesday BACKWARDS DAY!

Oh my goodness- Shannon over at Rocks in My Dryer is doing something awesome today. It's backwards Works for me Wednesday- so we get to ASK questions about how to do something.

So here's mine- how on earth do you clean your shower doors??? Mine constantly has soap scum on it and I've tried a thousand dozen things to clean it! HELP!!!

Oh wait- I thought of something else! Where do you recommend I have my child tested for Dyslexia? The school is dragging their feet and I am determined to get him help this time. I've been trying for THREE years! So, if you have dealt with this what did you do???

Thanks

I have two solutions for you, both are green as well. First solution Melaluca....it can be costly and it requires a minimum purchase order, but if you don't live on a budget or you can work it in...we liked it, but we started living on a budget so it had to go.

The other is Methods (found at Target and some HEBS) shower cleaner. It too is natural and it is $2.99 a bottle with a $4.99 refill bottle available. You spray it every time you get out of the shower and it can take up to 3-4 weeks to clean depending on how dirty your shower is. How long the bottle last is up to you (or in my case my hubby who gets a bit excited when he is the last to shower). Our shower is ALL glass and they always look clean, and my grout is as good as the first day we moved into our house.

I have tried homemade solutions (from Haley's Hints) but haven't had much luck.

Good luck to you!

YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS MOVING INTO A NEW APT. THE OWNER TOLD ME WHAT TO DO TO KEEP THE SHOWER DOORS LOOKING LIKE NEW. OLD ENGLISH LEMON OIL. CLEAN YOUR DOORS REALLY WELL AND THEN TAKE A DRY CLOTH AND WIPE THEM DOWN. DON'T FORGET THE CHROME AROUND THE DOORS. THIS WORKS GREAT. THE OLD ENGLISH REPELS THE SOAP SCUM AND ALSO KEEPS THE WATER SPOTS OFF THE CHROME PART. WE ARE 3 IN MY FAMILY WITH 3 SHOWERS A DAY SO I DO THIS EVERY 2 WEEKS.

Have you tried Mr. Clean Magic earaser? I am not sure if it would work, but it would be pretty easy if it did.

This is a super cheap option that works good enough for me: buy a cheap shampoo (like Suave). Keep it in your shower. While showering, put some on a washcloth and wipe down the doors. Just do that every once in awhile, and it works well! Oh, and it smells good too!

I had NO IDEA about WD40, Liquid Gold or Old English Lemon... my glass doors are disgusting, so i'm going to try these!!!

After all... it can't possibly hurt or make it worse!

Although I have not tried it yet, my friend has. She suggested I use a USED dryer sheet to wipe down the doors. She says it's worked for her.

I was at Sam's Club recently and noticed an aerosol can of window cleaner (3 pack), which got me thinking. I looked in the garage and happened to have the aerosol car window cleaner (found in the auto accessory section) and used that on my shower door and bathroom mirror. The substance sprays on as a foam and wipes all the yuck off with no streaks. Works brilliantly!!!

About once a week, I use an inexpensive shampoo and a pouffy nylon bath scrubby. While I'm in the shower letting the conditioner sit on my head, I scrub the glass shower doors and walls. When I'm done, I'm clean and the shower is clean! I've found this to work very well, and I don't have to deal with chemical smells.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser takes all the soap scum right off like... ummmm... Magic! (Works great on the tub & tile too!)

You should not have to take your daughter for private testing. It is your school district's responsibility to do it, by law. If you haven't gotten anywhere with your school's office you need to contact your school district. In most districts, that's who is scheduling evaluations anyway.

about the dyslexia---
we chose not to go through the school system, where I am it was not comprehensive and we wanted to have some control over the outcome. Our pediatrician referred us to a pediatric psychologist for a full evaluation spectrum for learning disabilities. I highly recommend going the private route, but that is just me. Our insurance paid for the evaluation as well.

Yea the WD40 is a good job really.

Trust me - it smells but it works!

About the shower, we use a product called "Clean Shower", and it's awesome. It will not immediately take away the soap scum, but if you use it everyday, it WILL start to work!

About the dyslexia, it looks like you've gotten some good tips already - you could have testing done privately, but the school district is required by law to provide this testing for you. Go directly to the diagnostician. By-pass all other channels. If they continue to put you off, then call everyday, email, contact the special services director in your district. You are your child's best advocate. In the meantime, we have a dyslexic child, and we have had wonderful success with colored overlays. We got colored transparency sheets to place over reading materials, and it definitely helps. We use blue because it was the color that worked best for our child.

Hope this helps!

We also chose not to go through the school system with our concerns about our daughter. Our pediatrician referred us to a clinic and we've been seeing a clinical psychologist and so far we've pretty happy with her. Good luck!! :)

I was a teacher at a school for kids with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and the best advice I can give is DON"T WAIT! It would be ideal for your school to do the testing and provide the necessary therapy but this is your child and if the school is dragging their heels I would just go do it on my own. It's that important! Check out Lindamood Bell, that is the program we used at our school. I saw amazing strides in the kids I taught using those methods. I'm sure they would be able to point you to the right people in your community if there are no actual Lindamood Bell centers near you. Good luck! I've seen many kids do amazingly well in school with the right support.

The scrubbing bubbles spray thing works like a dream for me. My shower doors were getting kind of cloudy when I bought it. I used it a few times and the shower doors were as clear as the day we moved in. It didn't get the top three inches of the doors, so I punched a hole in one of the refills and put it in a spray bottle so I can spray the top 3 inches.

You can get online and get a coupon for $5 off one and $1 off of the refills.
